Love Your Parents...

Bina bole jo samajh le.... mere mann ki baat ,
Mere dukh mein.... mere sukh mein,
Jo hai.... har pal saath,
Sabse ache sabse sache,
Sabse ache sabse sache,
Lori gaate haath ,
O MAA tere haath !
A beautiful song that caught my attention a few years ago….
Undoubtedly the most fascinating of all relationships on the face of Mother Earth is the one that exists between a Mother and her Child!
Hold on...I don’t mean to say that the father is not important or is less important in any way!
The love and care a mother provides is completely unparalleled and priceless.
"A mother loves her children even when they least deserve to be loved".
You can definitely be sure that...even when the whole world turns you down, your mother will always be there for you to fall back on.
She sacrifices her career to be there for you, spends sleepless nights to make you sleep, teaches you to walk, talk, to differentiate the right from the wrong, wakes up with an excitement each day wondering whether you will speak a new word, or take your first step or maybe get another tooth, takes you to school, compromises on her little desires because she has responsibilities (read…YOU) that are much more important to her, helps you to deal with all the frustration that you have to face in life, teaches you to make good friends, takes you around to the dance class, tuition class, wherever you want to go, buys you the best of everything she can possibly afford, showers upon you her unconditional love, in short .....whatever position you have reached today, whichever mountain you have conquered...you owe it to her...and what do you do in return???! One fine day when you are ready to face the world and stand on your own legs, you forget all this and send her and your dad to an Old-Age home just because you want to live your own life and have no time to spare???
Aren't old age homes for those who are childless and do not have anyone to look after them?
I have never been able to understand...why would people be so selfish that they wouldn’t want to spend a little time with the very people who brought them into this world?
A completely shameful attitude. Blame it on whom?
Did they disown you, when you kept them awake all night worrying about you, when you were ill?
When your father even when he was ill woke up at unearthly hours and went off to work, so that YOU can have a good education....did he shirk his responsibilities and disown his family?
I do acknowledge the fact that some parents need 24 * 7 medical attention and in those cases, nursing homes might be the best place for them.... but.... this is not the case with the majority who have been forced into homes because their kids have no time to care for them in the sunset years of their life. Don’t you realize that they all long to return to their homes and live with their children! If you ever walk through an old-age home, it will be an experience you’ll never forget.
I have been to one such home and trust me when I say ...the plight of the elders in most of these homes is tragic...to say the least!
It is high time that the present generation realizes that what goes around comes around too!
Do they realize that their children also learn from them? If they put your parents into a home at the end of their lives, then chances are... you too will end up in the same place when you reach that phase of your life. Dude…. the first 20-22 years of your life if your parents had been selfish like you and had the same mindset that you have today, they could have also disowned you...'cause then...(in your words)….you would have been 'useless' to them.
Old age is not an illness… it is the time when we need the love and care of our loved ones the most. Please don’t consider them a burden on you neither speak to them harshly, instead spare a minute and show them that you care and pleaseee don’t be hard-hearted. Remember, at one point of time in life, each one of us will go through this phase.
Like someone once said,
"I am not a perfect mother and I will never be.
You are not a perfect daughter and you will never be.
But put us together and we will be the best mother and daughter we would ever be."
